A Good Example Of People Missing The Point Entirely

In my previous article, where I discussed how a YouTuber got a play button award with a racist phrase written on it, the subject of the video the content creator had made, and thus the subject of my article itself, was the fact of how and why he could get the item with the inscription on it. The point is simply that YouTube doesn’t check anything, even when they say they do, and the rate at which they have automated things is absurd.

I thought this was obvious, but clearly, it’s not. Now, thankfully this had nothing to do with me, or my post – a friend of mine took a look at the video, and also (as is always a mistake) the comments to the video. What he noticed were quite a few people who just plain missed the point completely.

Instead of seeing where YouTube’s system was flawed, and how  Vexxed was able to get this put on his play button, instead they took the title of the video, YouTube Sent Me a Racist Play Button, and began commenting on how racist Vexxed is for putting that on the button, or how he has no right to get mad because he put it on there.

Now, let’s note that I’m not going to tear these apart in detail because why should I even bother, but I am going to address why these are perfect examples of people missing the point entirely.

Starting off, Vexxed isn’t mad about it, he titled the video that way as clickbait, something I’m certain all of these people fall for quite regularly, so that it would get views. He’s using proper marketing tactics for social media, especially on YouTube, to get his message out there. He isn’t mad, he set this all up intentionally to see if they would actually send him a button with that phrase on it! It’s something anyone, if they actually checked these things, would catch, and no one did. No automated system, let alone human being, saw it and said “Wait, no, we aren’t doing this, something is wrong here.” Hell, the fact the system is completely 3rd party (as in, not done by YouTube) so when people begin signing up for the button they have already gone beyond where YouTube can (or bothers to) check things!

With regards to the buttons being cheap, or how the letter is formatted, it’s worth bringing up for how it shows YouTube being more concerned about the cost and quality of the buttons (which has decreased from what it was previously) and how the form letter they send out is a little wrong – a small thing to bring up, the letter formatting, but hey, it’s his video, let him nitpick where he wants to!

So, yeah, the point is completely missed on these people.. and that’s pretty damn pathetic. It’s a fine example though of a few things which are major reasons as to why I don’t argue with people online about anything anymore. It’s especially hilarious to see the one guy reply showing he clearly got the point, but just wants to be a conflictive ass! Wonderful, right?!

People seem to miss the point often in life, almost as a rule. It seems any level of subtlety or depth to something confuses people, and, like in this example, instead of seeing exactly what the focus is, how YouTube doesn’t actually give a shit about anything instead they focus on the very catalyst that proves the point as if it’s the actual subject. It isn’t. They don’t bother to think about the information presented in the video, even when it’s explained clearly at the end, and piece it all together.  Critical thinking just doesn’t happen, and it’s pretty pathetic.

That’s not even addressing just how the comments are phrased… but I think I’ve made my point here.

Oh, no, in case you’re wondering, I never did go and check these threads myself. I’ve got more important things to do, like order junk on eBay. More to come, as always, stay tuned… or something like that.
