October at Cinemassacre doesn’t just mean Monster Madness, but also the Halloween episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd series. This year, James has decided to cover the most frightening thing yet in gaming: Berenstain Bears games.
Okay so that’s obviously a joke, but there are quite a few games based on this classic and beloved children’s book series. Most of them are sub par – nothing to terrible, but nothing great either. In what is becoming a standard element of modern AVGN videos, the episode shifts into a storytelling phase for the second half, this time covering the “Mandela effect” that happened with regards to the name of the book series: People’s memories had the family name as “Berenstein” when it is actually “Bearenstain.” This was a major deal a few months back online (seriously, look it up, it’s insane) and so here, James takes this idea and runs with it.
For me this was one of the better AVGN episodes in recent memory. It was a little weak on the game reviews, but made up for it in the wild story. Certainly check it out, but remember, this is the Nerd, so it’s rather crude. Discretion is advised.
