Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 4: Who Framed Roger Rabbit – Episode Review

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an AVGN (at this time still Angry Nintendo Nerd) episode that goes back to the style of the Simon’s Quest video, being mostly game play footage and more classic commentary over that footage. It seems like James had a bit of fun in this episode, more that others – even though James has a somewhat tired sound in his voice (from what I recall he actually was working long hours during this time period) he still shows quite a bit of emotion complaining about some elements; like he clearly has been wanting to say these things for years.

Probably the best part is midway through the video, when the nerd “calls” Jessica and has a rather dark conversation with her. James shows his horror-fan cinematic roots here by going immediately off the deep end with the phone call but following that? Right back to playing the game like nothing happened. Classic.

A classic moment in Nerd history.

Jame’s complaints are rather valid here, from what I understand about the game. He may exaggerate some annoyances, but that’s the charm of the character. James does skip most of the game itself, focusing on some general flaws. It’s a shorter episode, but at this time, that’s how the episodes mostly were. It wouldn’t be till later in 2006 when James would start producing longer, more in depth episodes.

The showdown with Judge Doom!

Final Rating: 3.0/5
It’s another pretty average episode, not in a bad way – we’re still establishing the series at this point. This episode does have some charm in it’s more extreme nature during the Jessica Rabbit phone call, but is a little too short for its own good; the episode could have been much longer and would have been, I’m sure, better because of it. As such it falls right in the middle, but this episode and the following one really get things going.
