Game Player’s Gametapes

Early in it’s life, back in 1989-1990 range Game Players Magazine had a series of “gametapes” available, which provided tips, tricks, and general guides to games on the Nintendo Entertainment System, the top gaming system by far in the U.S. back then. These tapes, while a little corny and kind of lame even by the standards of 1990, provide some decent information about many classic games, as well as some odd, more unknown titles, while also trying to sell you random accessories from various companies – whatever works, right?

These tapes, now almost 30 years later, act more like a time capsule to that happier time in my generations youth, when Nintendo was supreme next to our friends and the dreaded weekday monotony of school.

Enjoy the videos, and my commentary on them, and maybe fire up that old NES (or an emulator, if that’s your thing) and try out some of these games, if you haven’t already. I’m sure you will have quite a fun time, or a terrible one, depending on the game!

For what it’s worth, I made this image for the site. Use it if you want, but give me credit, okay?
