AVGN Season 2 Review Plan

I’m going to get to reviewing Season 2 of the Angry Video Game Nerd soon enough, and I thought it would be cool to share the general idea of how I’ll go about it, as while Season 1 was straightforward, Season 2 provides some challenges.

Season 2 consists of 24 episodes, spanning through 2007 and early 2008. James was experimenting more with the idea this time around, and as a result this season has 3 particular trouble spots that Season 1 just didn’t have: 2 multi-part episodes (one of which shouldn’t actually be a proper nerd episode) and one that is not actually “available” normally.

The multi-part episodes you think would be simple – just cover each part as it’s own article, since each one is its own episode, officially. Problem is, while this works for one video set, it doesn’t work as well for another, and as such that particular episode pair (which happen to be episodes 18 and 19, the next ones coming up) which are, of all things, a movie review (so they are barely even proper nerd episodes) and by that nature are best served as 1 article, so, that’s exactly how they will be presented here!

There are another set of related episodes that stand out well enough on their own, but still are closely enough in relation (all covering the same game series) that I should probably crank them out faster than I normally would – perhaps 3-in-a-row over a few days or something. I don’t know, we will see.

That leaves another episode, which isn’t available under “normal” methods – I’ll have to find an acceptable solution to this epsiode, but to put it simply it’s missing from YouTube on official channels (which are all I wish to link to here, to support James Rolfe more properly) – I’m sure it’s not going to be hard for me to track down a proper copy but as it stands I’ll have to dig a tiny bit for that – no biggie, but it’s something worth mentioning since, as I said, this was an odd season.

Lastly, there are just more episodes available in this season, and while it took me at a conservative, slow production rate about 3 months to go through all those episodes, I feel a more constant rate for Season 2 will serve me best – that is, if, and only if I can keep up this rate, I would probably finish this season by December. It makes me wonder though if it would be better to speed up, or pace myself to about once a week – we will see, I guess, as it also could well depend on how I feel, and also how quickly I want to write reviews on related episodes, as mentioned above.

So, that’s what I’m looking at. This isn’t anything special, as far as updates go, but may be of interest to some if not for what information it contains, but simply to show the thought process in these kinds of things – they aren’t as simple as they may seem. Not saying they are hard things to figure out though, just that it’s something different than it would seem.

Hope you enjoy, either way!
