Facebook And That Little Flower Reaction

Ya know, I thought people had better memories than they seem to. This past week on Facebook, I noticed people talking about a little “flower” reaction, alongside the usual heart, laugh, cry, anger, and all that. This, as you probably know by now, is the “Thankful” reaction, which was introduced last year, just a little behind the introduction of reactions in general to the site.

Now, this little reaction is an odd one – it only existed around Mothers Day, and went away soon after that. I would imagine it would make more sense around the American holiday of Thanksgiving, a time we traditionally think of as people being thankful for things, but who am I to question Zuckerberg, right?

Anyway, the thing that got to me was people didn’t remember this. I first saw some memories (you know, year old posts) come up that had that reaction on them, and it reminded me instantly “oh yeah, this is a thing.” A few days after that, I started seeing people post asking things like “What’s with this flower?” or “How do I get the new flower reaction?” as it had come back into active use, apparently.

I find it a little funny people forgot about it so easily but then again most people wouldn’t have any reason to remember the flower – I just happen to be one of those people who remembers pointless things like this, so, take it for what you will.

I have to wonder why the little flower is done temporarily, and only for mothers day, of all holidays. It just seems dumb to add it in, roll it out to people, then take it away just as quickly.

File this one under the “Pointless post” range, but I thought people might get a little bit of a smile out of this one and if you didn’t know the story of the “thankful” react, well, you now do, at least from my point of view.

It’s a random flower that comes and goes at the most odd of times, and makes me question what is going on at facebook HQ.
