February 2018 Xbox Live Games With Gold

Microsoft just put out the February 2018 Xbox Live Games With Gold list and, as always, it’s got some good, and some bad to it. Let’s take a look.

Opening up on Xbox One, we have Shadow Warrior and Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India.

Shadow Warrior… Another first person shooter? Well, this one has swords and magic in it – an idea I thought might be pretty cool to implement in more games, so this might be a nice one. Then again, when do I ever get around to playing these things?

Assassins Creed Chronicles: India, on the other hand, is one I’m pretty sure I’ll pass up – I mean, yeah, I’ll redeem it, but I won’t play it anytime soon. I tried out Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China when it was given away in late 2016, and while the game wasn’t bad, I just couldn’t get into it.

On the Xbox 360 we have Split/Second and Crazy Taxi.

….Another… racing.. game… Hey, Microsoft, you know I really really don’t play racing games much, right? That’s one of those game types that I always get stuck at a certain point on some race that’s harder than normal for my play style and I just stop playing, even the good games… right? I mean, I get it, the 360 had a good set of racing games, and yeah, these aren’t bad, but geeze, it’s a little too much. Still, I’ll consider giving Split/Second a shot, maybe.

Next up for the Xbox 360 we have Crazy Taxi.

…..

So, I would make the racing game joke again, here – I really would, but there’s a problem with me doing that. Crazy Taxi is one of those games that is just plain awesome! No, seriously, this was a killer app for the Sega Dreamcast back in the day, and hell, it even sold Nintendo GameCube systems. Yes, a Sega game was one of the reasons people bought a Nintendo console in the early 2000’s. I’m dead serious. I’ve never actually had Crazy Taxi, either, but I had the game Simpsons Road Rage, which is basically a clone of it (seriously, it’s nearly identical) so I know what kind of general gameplay to expect, and I like it. This one, certainly best game of the lot, even if it is nearly 20 years old!

So, that’s that. Another month that doesn’t look too bad, but is heavy on racing and substream titles. Take it for what it is, though, 4 more random games to try out if you don’t already own them.

Enjoy.
