Introducing the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition

So, Nintendo rolled out the first promotional video for the NES Classic Edition, and it’s a nice little throw back to the good old days, even including the “Now you’re playing with power” slogan from the late 80’s and early 90’s that worked so well for them.

I’m still optimistic about the plug-and-play system, as mentioned in my previous article, and while to me it certainly can’t replace the real deal and a classic CRT TV, for many gamers, new and old, I think it will make a fine addition to their collection, and serve a special role for when you want to play one of the games on the system and don’t want to bother with the nuances of a 25-30 year old gaming system.

I do want to note once again that this isn’t a proper NES – it IS a system that only plays the 30 games built in, but they are a mostly awesome assortment, and they certainly would cost more to buy individually than they would be under this collection, which looks to feature a proper controller and HDMI for modern TV gaming without lag and various graphical issues that tend to accompany old analog equipment being used on the average consumer HDTV.

For $60, I’d still say it’s worth it.

Oh, as an aside, note that Nintendo never once calls it the “NES Mini” so please, stop referring to it as such. I also want to note that since this system is new, but made to look old, it is true “retro” gaming, as opposed to playing on original hardware, which would be vintage (see my article on the difference here) . I share that here because this is a good example of the difference.
