January 2017 Xbox Live Games With Gold

Microsoft wasted no time tossing out next months Games with Gold game list, and what a nice list of games it looks to be starting off January 2017. As always, these games may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so to speak, but it’s always worth trying out something new.

Let’s jump right into it:

Xbox One:

DeathTrap: World of Van Helsing

A tower defense game? Neat! These types of games can be stressful for me, but I do enjoy them, and one set in the gothic-horror world that a story like Van Helsing would spawn fits perfectly with me. Apparently this is a new game, which is a plus – a free new game is always nice because if it’s bad at least you didn’t waste any money direclty on it!

Killer Instinct: Season 2 Ultra Edition

Oh, this is the big winner this month. The Xbox One Killer Instinct game, a launch title that runs as free, but with optional purchasable characters, has been under constant updates and upgrades over the past 3 years, and this chance to get the Season 2 content for free is badass, especially for someone like me, who took advantage of the free Season 1 content offered back around a year ago; patience rewards those who can wait on such content to be released for free 😉

Xbox 360:

The Cave

A “humorous adventure platformer” eh? This might be nice, but I just can’t see anything in this video that makes the game stand out. It might be fun, or it might be a game I play for 5 minutes and never touch again. Can’t wait to find out, either way!

Rayman Origins

I remember when Rayman was a new thing – he seemed like a cool game character, but I never did get a chance to really play a title he was in. Looks like this will be my chance, and I can say this much, the game does look amazing. I can only hope the gameplay feels right, as most modern platformer titles just don’t play all that well (which may be the issue with “The Cave” mentioned above).

Looks like the latter half of this months game set is the better half, so come January 16th, presuming you’re already tired of those games you got this holiday season, these will do you quite well, and even if you aren’t they are still worth adding to your library.

Happy gaming!
