July 2017 Xbox Live Games With Gold

Microsoft was super late on on getting out the video for July’s Games With Gold. Not just were they late on it, but they also seem to have been at quite a rush on this as the game selection seems lacking – almost as if Microsoft had gotten so wrapped up in E3 they had forgotten to even get the licensing setup or whatever publisher requirements they have to make to get it happen – it feels rushed either way.

Let’s take a look!

For the Xbox One we have Grow Up, an abstract looking platformer that seems to involve the world you are in being an ever-growing tree: that should be pretty cool, I guess. Following up on that is Runbow, a game which seems similar in principle to the recently released Speedrunners game, in this case the mechanic being that the background color changing changes the environment as well – that should be fun!

For the Xbox 360 we have Kane and Lynch 2, a third-person shooter title that seems to have mixed reviews. I don’t know myself it I will enjoy it or not, but I don’t find anything wrong with trying it out. Later int he month we get Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, another Lego game that should be a blast! I need to get around to playing Lego Star Wars, but hey, one game at a time right?

All in all, not the best assortment, but nothing bad – people seem to be super upset over this list and while even I will agree it’s pretty weak, especially on the Xbox One side (really, the list looks more like some Indy stuff that would be on the Playstation rather than Xbox One games) you still don’t know if they are going to be awesome or not if you haven’t played them, so why not at least give them a try right?

Right.
