NES Classic Edition Review by Mike and Ryan of Cinemassacre

With the NES Classic Edition (or NES Mini as so many people want to call it) selling out everywhere, I though it might be worthwhile to share a review on the console from Mike and Ryan, of Cinemassacre. While I often think Mike, and to a lesser extent, Ryan, get confused on the specifics of what they are discussing when it comes to gaming, I feel their hearts are in the right place, so to speak, and I do think their opinions worth sharing – at least, more than some other more “random” YouTubers I’m aware of.

Anyway, as far as their take on the console goes, it’s about the same old same old as I or anyone else, I would think, would say. It’s a good game collection, but the console lacks expandability. The controller cables are apparently incredibly short, which makes some sense – this console is designed to sit on the floor near you, much like the Atari era consoles, or the Famicom, rather than sit in the entertainment center over by the TV.

As I said before, I like the HDMI output, and it looks managed well – options for 16:9 OR 4:3, with or without CRT effect simulation, which is pretty nice. The Save State functionality is also a plus, especially for games like Final Fantasy. It’s also interesting to hear rumor that the hardware inside is better than that of the original Wii – it makes you wonder why they didn’t plan to do more with the console, like maybe make it a virtual console NES system? That would work, but Nintendo has their reasons.

The system certainly wouldn’t have a 256gigabyte storage in it though – that’s just insane storage to be wasted on maybe a few megabytes of NES game data, so it’s probably a 256MB system. It’s still quite a bit of storage for expandability, but that’s neither here nor there for the actual hardware.

I can’t say that I agree or disagree with Mike and Ryan – All I will say is this is their take on it, and I’m sharing it with  you.
