Update: The SNES Classic Will Be Sold In Quebec After All

News coming in from up north, apparently the SNES Classic Edition will be sold in Quebec after all. Toys R Us Canada and EB Games Canada twitter accounts made mention of this a few days ago, which is good news for everyone in Quebec who wanted to get the console locally.

The bad news? Doesn’t look like any pre-orders of any kind are being taken – the system releases in just over a week, so it’s going to be a case of first come first serve for this much sought after little gaming machine.

Now, what one has to wonder is, what happened? The machine was originally restricted for sale as it did not meet language requirements to be sold in Quebec in that it must have menu options in French, since that’s the primary language in Quebec, so you have to wonder: did the Office of French Language lift the ban on this item as a special case, did Nintendo negotiate with them to create an exception, or did Nintendo “fix” the problem? I’ve got minimal information on this at this time, but if more info crosses my path, I’ll do a follow up.

In any case, good news for gamers in Quebec. Best of luck to all of you who want one – it’s going to be a rough hunt but certainly better than having to buy one online from a reseller.
