Launched in 1977, the twin Voyager 1 and 2 probes were sent out on missions to observe Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, as well as their moons, rings, and anything else they could discover on their journeys out of the solar system.
Voyager 1 was sent on a more specialized mission for only Jupiter and Saturn, but Voyager 2 was to make the grand tour, exploring all the outer planets save for Pluto (that snowy world would finally be observed up close by New Horizons in 2014).
In this video, produced in 1986, we take a look at the more interesting than it would seem flyby Voyager 2 made of Saturn. Stuck camera platforms, more ring details than scientists could handle, and more documented over a 3 day period in August of 1981.
