Xbox Game Pass – It Seems Alright To Me

Upon waking up today I looked through twitter, as I do every day, and found Xbox’s “Major Nelson” tweeting about a new service coming to the Xbox brand: Xbox Game Pass.

This is pretty straightforward service, from the looks of things: Pay about $10 a month and have a selection of full games to be able to install and play – that simple. The selection of games may change from month to month, and you would be able to purchase, at a discount, titles that you enjoy and want to have permanently. Of course, if you were to stop paying for the subscription you would lose out on access to games on the service, so the discounted buy might be good if you want to “try” some games for a month, then buy just the ones you really enjoyed.

Think of it kind of like Netflix for games, except the games are actually stored on your machine – not streamed. Once it’s installed you are good to go and enjoy the game just like you purchased it from the store, so long as your subscription is active, of course.

For someone who just loves to have games, and have a ton to choose from, this might be a good option. 10 bucks a month isn’t too bad, about what a Netflix subscription would cost, and a gamer would get a hell of a lot more out of such a service.

To be fair, I personally don’t think I will use this, but that’s just due to how little I play – sometimes I’m gaming all day, while other times I go weeks without turning on an Xbox. It’s just the nature of life. For young adults, or teens, though, it’s a damn fine idea, I think.
