May 2019 Xbox Live Games With Gold

So, Microsoft finally got around to putting up the May Games With Gold video… 3 days late. Yep, they waited until May 3rd to upload it. Go figure.

Whatever. We’ll cover it just like we do every Games with Gold announcement, so without any further delay, let’s get to it. It can’t be all bad, right? Right?

On the Xbox One we have Marooners and The Golf Club 2019 Featuring PGA Tour.

Marooners.. oh boy, another party game. These trend well when people play them for all of a week and then you can never find an online match again! Granted, the game look like a bit of fun, I’ll give it that, but it’s still on a whole a weak looking entry. Interesting, yes, but still, as a party game, weak.

The Golf Club 2019? Okay, that’s different. Golf. Right. I actually somewhat like the sport of golf – I don’t pay close attention to it but I really like what it is as a sport and as a general activity. That means I’m not too averse to a golf game being in the list, but this also is not the kind of thing that’s going to be appreciated by most gamers, so, it’s still a miss in the grand scheme. Too bad, but hey, if you have any interest in the game I’d imagine it’s a superb golf title, so take that for what you will!

On the Xbox 360 we’ve got Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon and Comic Jumper.

Oh boy, an Earth Defense Force game! okay, cool, if memory serves those are pretty well liked so that’s a plus! Maybe. I’m honestly not sure, but it looks like it might be an enjoyable title, so it’s safe to say this is the game I’m looking forward to out of this months batch.

Lastly, we have Comic Jumper. Oh boy, a comic book superhero based game? For some reason this gives me flashbacks to the Sega Genesis game Comix Zone, except it’s kind of completely different. It doesn’t look like a bad title, the kind of absurdist stuff I’ve grown to enjoy through the years, but still possibly an overall weak entry, and one that seems pretty well timed with a certain superhero based films recent release.

Interestingly, no original Xbox game this time around, which is a plus. Maybe this relates to the issue present in last months title and an error in their marketing? Maybe, maybe not.

The point is, this month is a bit of a mess – probably the weakest month in a long time, and the ratings on the YouTube video shows that. I can’t say I’d disagree with them this time around…
