Angry Video Game Nerd – Season 3 Review

It took a while, but we made it through Season 3 of The Angry Video Game Nerd! That only took about 11 months, but it’s done, and quite a ride it was!

This was the point where I’d say the series really began to reach its peak. It was during this time James moved into his current house and things began to become somewhat normalized for the shows production and feel. The wood paneling of the new Nerd Room, the arrangement of consoles and the old TV’s, the walls lined with games (with more shelves soon to replace the posters behind the couch) and the overall style of things introduced in this time period became the Nerd look and feel.

This was also the last period of episodes where I had yet to actually discover the show for myself — while I had seen the Wizard of Oz episode when it was new, I hadn’t watched anything else of the series. That would change in 2009 making Season 3 some of the most “recent” nerd I could watch as Season 4 episodes would be made.

On that subject, Season 3 was pretty hit and miss. While you have amazing episodes like the CD-i trilogy, Bible Games II, Batman, the Double Vision pair, and of course the absolute absurdity of the Super Mario Bros. 3 review, you also have lesser episodes like Moonwalker, NES Accessories, and the absolute stinker that is Deadly Towers.

Still, the sheer volume of higher quality episodes produced in this time period were a preview of what’s to come, as 2009 and Season 4 would prove to be my favorite period in the series.

I say it this way as officially the show was never produced with conventional “seasons” in mind — these were retroactively added in to group batches of episodes, and I think they work pretty well.

But, yeah, back on point, Season 3 was pretty damn nice, but Season 4, oh boy, I’m about to have a ton of fun watching my favorite episodes of the series over again, and I hope to get this season covered in just a few months, as opposed to the nearly year Season 3 took! An aggressive goal, to say the least, but one that, given the time allotted to me, I think I can manage.

With that, I leave you with the links to every Season 3 review and the “full” Season 3 video. Enjoy, as always!
