May 2022 Xbox Live Games With Gold

It’s May 1st, which means yet another 4 games available for us Xbox gamers via the Games with Gold program. As always, this is the monthly article where I take a look at the lineup and share my impressions of it, for what value those read this blog. Let’s get to it.

For the modern lineup we have Yoku’s Island Express and The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk.

With Yoku’s Island Express we have a pinball platformer. That’s different — not since the days of Sonic Spinball have I really experienced such, so that might be refreshing to try out.

Following that comes The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk Well, it looks beautiful, that’s for sure. I can’t quite tell but it seems like this is something akin to the 90’s adventure titles from developers like LucasArts, for example. Too bad the video doesn’t actually go into much detail on how this plays — it may be a fun one, but I’m on the fence right now, as such titles aren’t my cup of tea.

On the classic lineup we get Hydro Thunder Hurricane and Viva Pinata Party Animals.

We already had Hydro Thunder: Hurricane in September of 2017, so this isn’t a new one for me. Finally, the “repeating games” complaint hits home. That’s fine, though, one less download to worry about. It’s a fun one which I did play some a few years ago, but haven’t really picked up on since.

Lastly comes Viva Pinata Party Animals. Oh, joy… a Viva Pinata game. Okay, to be fair I really don’t know much about these titles, but I also kind of just don’t care. I never saw much appeal in them. In this case we have a party game, as the name implies, so I’m even more out than I already was — I don’t like party games. Period. I’m pretty sure this one is in Game Pass still, or, at the very least, I already have it on Rare Replay, so… there isn’t really much for me to gain here.

And that’s that. An absolutely average lineup. Bummer. Oddly, the peanut gallery seems to be somewhat positive in their reception of this, but only somewhat. Not that they matter but, you know, I have to make mention of it.

Here’s to a better month come June.
