This Saturday, July 2nd, I will be at Anime Blues Con 6 here in Memphis, Tennessee, to host my panel for this year, entitled “So You Want To Be a Video Game Collector.” This will be the 3rd year I will have presented at Anime Blues Con, and also be the first year which I …

The Review Plan
Yesterday I wrote about my plans to start reviewing things on here, in conjunction with the usual “whatever” I write about. Of course, before you go just reviewing whatever, you have to have some kind of standard for how you want to do things. Finding reviews will be simple – in the header there will …

Writing About What I Want, When I Want, How I Want – An Update
So, over the past few months I’ve been writing more. Much much more than I have in months, indeed, in years past. I’ve expressed before that I am switching over from making YouTube videos to writing more. I still crank out the occasional video, but at this stage, it’s so much easier to write than …

A Sham of a Shop in Wolfchase Mall
Not too far from me is the main shopping center for the Memphis / Shelby County metropolitan area. The centerpiece of this area is a mall called Wolfchase Galleria. I’m not the most fond of the place, but I don’t hate it. It’s mostly clothing stores, a few specialty shops, and a ton of cell …

When People Strive To Be Incorrect
One of my many many quirks is a desire to be as correct as I can be in what I say, do, or think. I’m in no way saying I’m always right, but I am saying I try to avoid being incorrect where I can be – I like to use the proper terms for …

Spending Some Time With a Good Old BBS
Before there was the internet, there were Bulletin Board Systems (BBS for short). These systems were basic, at their core, but could grow quite complex. The way they worked was simple: a user dialed the phone number of the BBS they wanted to access and, presuming the line wasn’t busy, they would connect directly to …

Memories of Vagabond’s Quest
Let’s go back. Way back. over 15 years into the past, to high school computer labs in late 2000 and early 2001. At this time, I didn’t have a computer at home (amazing, I know!) so my only real access to PC’s, or the internet, was at school. This was fine by me – I …

The “Joy” of Server Issues
As I write this entry, I’m in a time crunch. At any given moment I could experience an issue that has been plaguing the site the past 24 hours or so. In this case, it’s something to do with the MySQL server, and it basically giving up every few hours. What does this mean to …

Cutting Back on YouTube Content Creation (Final)
So let’s cut to the chase with all this YouTube madness. What is the entire point I’m getting at in writing 3, now 4 articles about YouTube Content Creation? First of all, for those of you who may not have seen them, let me share the first 3 articles in this series: http://www.xadara.com/cutting-back-youtube-content-creation-part-1/ http://www.xadara.com/cutting-back-youtube-content-creation-part-2/ http://www.xadara.com/cutting-back-youtube-content-creation-part-3/ …

Cutting Back on YouTube Content Creation (Part 3)
Getting feedback on YouTube videos you upload is a great thing. Seeing that your how-to video helped someone fix a broken device, or knowing someone smiled at that video of your cat playing is wonderful. It’s great to know someone watched and took the time to let you know what they thought. Even just a …

Cutting Back on YouTube Content Creation (Part 2)
As touched on in my last article, one of the major elements of this YouTube burnout is the sheer time it takes to create a video. While an article could take all of 15 minutes to write, a video with the same content might take upwards of 2 to 3 hours to make, under less …

Cutting Back on YouTube Content Creation (Part 1)
As some of my readers may know, and certainly virtually all of my close friends are aware, I produce content on my YouTube channel. YouTube Content Creation, or really, making videos of any kind, has been for the better part of a decade something I have always wanted to do, and in the past few …

We Close When We Close
I don’t talk much about my day to day life on here, but a situation the other night had me wanting to write an article on, as silly as it seems, the fact that, yes, stores close for the night. To establish the setting, it was just a few minutes before closing time, on a …

Dear Parents: Modern Game Consoles Demand Internet Access
Working in game sales for the day job, I quite often have parents buying new video games, and new game consoles, for their children. That’s great, let the younger ones game on cutting edge hardware for their time, just as I did in the 90’s. The thing is, it isn’t the 90’s anymore. Gaming hardware is …

Let’s Get Real With This Blog
I’ve written for this website for several years now. I’ve run this website, in various forms, for over a decade. As it stands, Xadara.com is primarily just a blog with a focus on gaming, general technology, and social media commentary. That’s fine, that’s the kind of stuff I like, but I find myself only writing …
