May 2018 Xbox Live Games With Gold

In a strange mistake by Microsoft, this video was released slightly early, back around the 18th or 19th. It’s since been unlisted, which doesn’t stop me from showing it to you now, so, here we are!

Not to give away the ending too early, but this is one of the best months in a very very long time.

On the Xbox One we have Super Mega Baseball 2 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Super Mega Baseball 2… another baseball game? Actually, I’m down for that – it doesn’t look bad, and this is one of those games that’s getting released as a Games with Gold game, so it’s always cool to get a new game for free.

Detestably, the big game this time around is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. A high tier 2015 release that’s basically the last proper Metal Gear game (since it was during the production of this title that Hideo Kojima, the series creator, left Konami) it’s apparently a mixed bag – a good enough game on it’s own, but one tainted with the usual microtransaction insanity which has polluted gaming as of the past few years. Oh, that, and controversy over the character Quiet. Forgot about that.

Yeah, MGSV: TPP, a great thing for those who never bothered to pick the game up.

On the Xbox 360, we have Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage and Vanquish.

Okay, Streets of Rage. Hell yeah. Depending on your age (and if you had a Sega Genesis growing up) this may well be the best thing about Games with Gold this month. That’s right, better than Metal Gear Solid V.

For those who don’t know, Streets of Rage was an extremely popular trio of side scrolling beat-em-up’s (brawlers, as I like to call them) for the 16 bit Sega Genesis console. With Sega now pushing all their classic titles to other consoles, it makes sense for a collection like this to exist, and what a collection it is, with all 3 of these awesome games together.

Seriously, you owe it to yourself to try them out.

Later in the month for the Xbox 360 comes Vanquish, quite the interesting looking shooter, if you ask me. Funny, it’s actually the most “typical” game on this list, but apparently is pretty highly regarded, and does look like fun. I’ll add it to that ever growing list of “games I need to try out.”

Looks like a fun batch of games.
