So, Postimage Might Not Be As Good An Image Hosting Solution As I Thought

I apologize that I don’t have more time to go into this in this article, but I wanted to throw this out there quickly enough for what it’s worth to other bloggers and those interested in the subject.

Last year Photobucket began charging for the ability to hotlink images – something bloggers have been using the website for for seemingly over  a decade now to host images on their blogs. I went in depth on how this hurts the community on a whole, and gave my own suggestion for image hosting – postimages.org (or postimage.org, same service and servers)

Well, today my buddy Prince Watercress alerted me to the fact that some of my articles which used that site for image hosting didn’t look right. The images weren’t showing up.

I checked on my end and sure enough, things were broken. Very broken. I double checked my account on postimage and saw it was good, and all the pictures were there. Odd, to say the least.

In checking the articles affected in detail, I noticed the URL’s for the images were no longer correct, or otherwise weren’t resolving as they should. I did a quick update on one test image and it showed just fine, and looks to be in order, but the question still is why did this happen, and how long have those articles been broken?

As I said, I don’t have as much time right now as I wish I did to look into this, and fix the issue, but I’ll look more into it tonight and tomorrow and let the blogosphere know what’s going on.

Ah, don’t you just love headaches like this?

Anyway here’s Wonderwall…
