Fun Factory At Redondo Beach Pier

You don’t see much of arcades anymore. Over the past decade they have all but disappeared in all but the most touristy, high casual traffic areas of the United States.

In the video shared below, YouTuber AdamTheWoo takes a look at the “Fun Factory” arcade at Redondo Beach Pier near Los Angeles, California. This looks to be a hell of an example of an arcade, with both classic children’s rides, token redemption games and of course, quite the nice assortment of coin operated video game goodness – Virtual On, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, tons of amazing games from the late 80’s on through the 90’s alongside quite the nice bit of decoration and attention to aesthetic details. Certainly a unique place.

Sadly, it looks like this Arcade is closing soon. Can’t say why, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s simply not as profitable as it used to be. The costs associated with operation and maintenance of machines combined with an ever decreasing audience for such is really taking a toll on even the largest amusement operations. I really wonder how many good arcades will be left by 2020, 2025, or later.

Whatever case, enjoy Adam’s look at this arcade and if you’re in the Los Angeles area, why not hit it up before it closes for good? It might be a fun time.
