Gemini 10 Atlas-Agena D Docking Target Launch – 1966 NASA Film

Here’s another classic bit of rocket launch footage that I thought would be cool to share; the launch of the Gemini 10 Agena Target Vehicle on an Atlas-D booster.

One of the goals of project Gemini was docking with, and working in relation to, a target vehicle in Earth orbit. The Agena Target Vehicle served, as its name suggests, the docking target for a few Gemini missions. It was launched before the crewed Gemini mission, and while some of them failed to launch correctly, the Agena Target Vehicle for Gemini 10 behaved perfectly, allowing John Young and Michael Collins to successfully fly the as-planned Gemini 10 mission.

The film shown here was originally silent – music was added in by the uploader.

Enjoy!
