June 2019 Xbox Live Games With Gold

We’re coming up on another month and you know what that means – another set of games in the Games with Gold lineup. After a somewhat disappointing past few months I’m not expecting too much great, but let’s take a look and judge once we’ve seen what’s available.

Starting with the Xbox One we have EA SPORTS NHL® 19 and Rivals of Aether.

Hmn, another sports game to open up with for the Xbox One eh? Alright. I like Hockey — at least, as far as I can like most sports, and honestly this looks like it might be fun. Who knows, maybe I can kill some time with this, as I feel like I’d enjoy it but otherwise not take it too seriously — no story to pay attention to, after all. It’s a current year title as well, so that’s a bonus.

Next up is Rivals of Aether which, honestly, looks interesting. I’ve yet to see a fighter done in the “retro” style that’s popular these days and this looks pretty neat! I know I say this about many games and never get around to it, but this is one I may have to check out. I like what I see here!

For the Xbox 360 we have Portal: Still Alive and Earth Defense Force 2017.

Portal eh? Nice. Not just that, though, but this is Portal: Still alive, a version which, according to Wikipedia “features the original game, 14 new challenges, and new achievements.” Sweet! Portal is certainly a personal favorite for its unique gameplay and general feel and while I think its sequel, Portal 2, is infinitely better, that doesn’t detract from the awesome game that Portal is. I’ll certainly be enjoying playing it again, given it’s been a few years since I last played the game on PC.

Lastly, Earth Defense Force 2017. Oh, damn, another EDF game? As I said last month, I’ve heard good about these. I’ve yet to play the one we got this past month so I can’t speak up on how good the game actually is to me, but given what others have said I think this one would be a fun time.

So, yeah, honestly, this is a pretty good looking month! I’m surprised the video has so much hate, but as always people (read, kids) think they can get Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto for free via this (not likely) and get mad, or something like that I guess — I can only go based on the mostly poorly written comments from people who whine begging for such. Whatever.

More to come next month, as always. Catch you then!
