My PlayStation Classic Finally Arrived. Yay?

Remember back on Amazon Prime day back in the middle of July? Remember how they had the PlayStation Classic going for 20 bucks? Well, I ordered one, as mentioned in this previous article, and it only just the other day came to me.

Amazing had over-sold units by quite a bit, it would seem, and my order hung in limbo for nearly a month. I checked it from time to time to see if the status was going to update and incidentally come Wednesday of this past week I saw it was to be delivered “by 8PM Tomorrow” so, Thursday. Cool.

I ordered it from an account at work meaning it would arrive at the shop rather than my house. Even better since I would be at work at the time it would show up.

Sure enough, after waiting nearly a month (when I could have just gone to the store and got one) it arrived. Cool. I now have the thing for 1/5th of its original cost.

Now, if you know me at all you know obviously I’m going to mod it. It’s a terrible device as sold (as discussed here and here) but when modified at the software level it becomes something much more usable. I rather enjoy the PlayStation era of gaming anyway, so it certainly will get use. There is another reason I bought it though.

An article I wrote when the console was announced has been constantly my top trending article since it was published! People are constantly coming to Xadara searching about how to power the thing, as if it’s something difficult. I’ve even seen people claim they can’t get it powered, again, as if it is somehow a challenge to find a random USB power supply which will supply enough power to run the thing.

It’s almost comical, and while I’ve done what I can to explain how trivial it should be to power this thing, I’d rather just do my own tests and see what issues do or don’t show up. I’ll use what I have available and see if the damn thing starts up or has issues, proving either the people who are having trouble are correct, or that they don’t have a clue what they are doing.

So, yeah, I want to mod and play games on the thing but also use it as a test bed for a future article which, hopefully, will be the last one I write addressing the damned thing (beyond modding stuff, of course) since I’m kind of tired of it and would rather get hits for, you know, other content.

More to come, as always.
