A little bit of something different as an immediate follow-up, here we have the “behind the scenes” footage of James and Mike playing the Magnavox Odyssey. This is basically the raw footage filmed for the episode, and is quite funny in its own right seeing as it’s 2 friends sharing the experience of playing the console for the first time.
The footage is listed on YouTube as a “Let’s Play” and in a way it is. It’s raw, but it is them just playing the thing. James Rolfe and Mike Matei would later, as Cinemassacre grew as a brand, begin a let’s play series called (after a few name changes) “James and Mike Mondays” so in some ways many could consider this the origins of that. I wouldn’t go so far – they’ve always gamed together and Mike had helped often in the game play and production of Nerd episodes before, so the show was a natural evolution of their time gaming and having fun.
Whatever case, I share this here as a way to “complete” my thoughts on Episode 68 and share somewhat unique footage for the making of a Nerd episode. Funny, that’s actually the subject of a later AVGN episode, how they are actually made, but we’re a ways away from that.
