About That Post Scheduling Plan

As mentioned in the “What’s Coming For October 2019” article yesterday, I’m planning on a Monday through Friday schedule for posts this month, on a trial basis at least, to see how that affects things.

There’s a few reasons for this, which I’ll go over here. Perhaps other bloggers may enjoy my insights and thought processes with all this.

The first is reason, naturally, getting views initially. That first strike while an article is “new” is always a fun time, but it has to be at the right time. Much like there’s traditionally a certain time and day that a YouTube video is more likely to be seen than others, the same goes with blog articles. Hell, those predate YouTube by decades so it’s really the other way around, but the point is the same — there’s a good time and day for everything online.

In my case, I’ve found that weekdays always perform better for “new” content than weekends. I don’t know why, honestly, but that’s what happens. While I’ve had weekends where views have spiked on previous entries, new ones tend to perform poorly. I’ve yet to find a good time in particular, I’m thinking later in the afternoon would be better since people are home from school / work, but I digress. Weekdays are the better days for content on my end.

Next up is freeing up my time. I want to have weekends more open, and traditionally I don’t write much on Sundays anyway, I might as well cut out Saturday as well — If I want to publish something, sure, but if it can wait I would probably do better to save it for Monday.

That leaves me with more of a “write for the future” rather than a “write for the moment” kind of pattern to things — I can write entries with future dates in mind, planning them out and then take advantage of that time to do, well, whatever.

I feel like it will give me more of a reason to write and actually increase productivity — much like having a steady work schedule naturally helps someone perform more effectively as opposed to one that’s random shifts (I know this from experience.)

Lastly, it may make things a little more predictable — you know on weekdays you will get entries from me more often than not, and weekends should be “free” for me to do other things, like share the past weeks entries or other things I see fit and “plan ahead” for the upcoming week.

I can’t say I’ll stick with this, or that it will go well, but I’d rather try than not. At the end of October I’ll do a follow up to cover what happened statistic wise as well as for me and my feelings on writing.

I do this site for fun. It is an effort at times and is kind of a job, but it’s one I enjoy and want to continue enjoying.

More to come, as always.
