They Actually Fixed The Design Of Sonic In The New Movie. Good Job.

Back about 6 months ago the first trailer for the Sonic The Hedgehog movie was released and to say it was met with poor reaction would be an understatement. I, for one, wasn’t surprised by how poor it was — look at the history of films related to gaming and the like, they have rarely really been like the actual media they are based on, sometimes hilariously so, and this was no exception.

To most everyone Sonic looked horrible. Almost like some kind of monster more than the “cool” or “extreme” character many of us grew up with. The design just wasn’t right, to say the least, and while I personally was okay with it, most people were pretty vocal about how much they disliked it. I personally could take or leave it — it wasn’t that bad to me, but I could totally see the reasons people hated it. I didn’t, however, think complaining would do anything.

Well, as it turned out, the studio listened to fan criticisms and fixed the look of the character to better fit the games. It’s actually quite an impressive job on just how good they got it, and how positively the internet reacted to this. Genuinely surprising as well since, this one time, fans complaining actually got something done. Wow.

With that said, the new trailer is below. I’ll follow up with the “old” trailer as well, for comparison sake. It’s interesting to note, as well, that they seem to have made the new trailer make the film seem all around more “fun” as compared to how the first one was.

…and the old one. Again, I didn’t hate the design as much as most people, but I do prefer the redesign.
