March 2020 Xbox Live Games With Gold

It’s funny, I had actually forgotten we were coming to the end of the month, so I was surprised to see the March Games with Gold lineup show in my YouTube subscriptions feed. That’s all good though, the video is here meaning it’s time to talk about the free games coming next month. Let’s get to it!

Starting off on the Xbox One we have Batman: The Enemy Within – The Complete Season and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

Oh, great, a Batman game. Just what I wanted! That’s sarcasm, in case you can’t tell. Sorry, I’m just not a superhero fan and this is another one of those Telltale games produced titles, so… eh. Odds are slim I’ll ever get to even giving this a try.

Next up is Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. This is a bit more like it. These games have gotten a bit of a cult following in the past few years, with this being the first entry in the series I was aware of, and that seemed to gather a lot of attention (the series had previous releases going back as far as the GameBoy Color, if memory serves.) I’ll probably give this one a try, as I like the visual style and from what I’ve seen this looks like the kind of platformer I’d genuinely enjoy.

On the Xbox 360 we have Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Sonic Generations.

Okay, another one of the Castlevania Lords of Shadow series games? Cool. I’ll take that. I’ve not played the other 2 yet but I welcome another game in a series that I’m at least somewhat likely to try, and I’d rather have something like this than the aforementioned Batman game.

Lastly we have Sonic Generations. Okay, I’m going to be blunt – Sonic Generations is a game I should like, but I don’t. The reason is it’s far too little of the classic Sonic titles and far too much of the later ones — only the first few levels are themed after anything from the Genesis Sonic games — the rest are all from the Dreamcast and later 3D titles, to a point of alienating me as I’ve not played many of those and have little interest in them. That’s just how it is. It’s not a bad game — it plays well, sure, but in the same way as any “modern” Sonic title plays. It doesn’t feel special. Still, I’ll give it a try – I went through half of it on Steam a number of years ago and would be fine with giving it a go on console, but Sonic Mania this isn’t.

And that’s that. not a bad month coming up, but I’d trade the Batman game for damn near anything else – I seriously don’t have interest in it at all.
