I Tried To Preorder An Xbox Series S – That Went Down Like A Lead Balloon

Can’t blame me for trying, right? This morning I got up and waited for the stroke of 10 A.M. central time for Xbox Series S/X preorders to begin, hoping there was a chance I might be able to secure one.

I failed in that task.

Trust me, I wasn’t seriously expecting to actually snag one, but I didn’t want to miss at least trying – it was kind of fun, given how actually excited I am for the upcoming hardware.

I chose Best Buy as my location of choice to try to preorder and when the time came… nothing. The pages never actually updated. At 10:15 A.M. there was a bit of a change to the Xbox Series S/X pages on the Best Buy website, but the “preorder” option still didn’t show.

I didn’t spend much time on this for any game system (or any product release, for that matter) — by 10:20 I had already given up any practical ideas of snagging one – I knew they were gone in the first minute or so. I just, by then, was wanting to see if the page would even update.

Remember, this is my first time actually doing this – I haven’t really been excited for a new console release since the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 back when I was in high school and couldn’t have gotten them myself if I wanted to at that point in my life. This was my first time even bothering for such just to see what would happen and it went exactly as I expected – it was an outright clusterfuck.

Sure, I was optimistic, but I knew deep down it would just be a shit-show. The thing was I had fun in trying, and the excitement was something I’d not felt in years, so I wanted to enjoy it for what it was – to just be part of the disaster, in a sense.

I’m patient. I can wait for one to become available and for me to be in the right place at the right time and then I’ll grab one. Many would say it’s better to wait anyway, and I’d be inclined to agree. Still, I do want one sooner, rather than later, but I can bide my time – I’ve got the Xbox One X and literally dozens of untouched games that I could play, should I feel the urge. In fact, I’d do myself well to make more time for gaming, but that’s another story for another time.

Obviously when I do procure one, I’ll post about it.
