Giving Destiny 2 Yet Another Go Before The Vault Reset

For those not in the know, the MMO FPS Destiny 2 is going through what amounts to a massive reset come November 10th with the release of the Beyond Light expansion.

In very basic form, much of what currently makes up Destiny 2, some of which has been there since the beginning, is going to be locked away, replaced with new content in the year 4 update to the game. This is being done in the perfectly logical reason of cutting down on the actual size of the game. It’s already grown too massive to reasonably maintain and expand upon, and rather than let the game stagnate or have to make a Destiny 3, they instead have chosen to rotate content in and out each year which, honestly, works for me.

That being said, I’ve neglected the game heavily, especially since the last expansions release. For as little as I had played I couldn’t justify spending the money on the most recent expansion and so I pretty much stopped playing at all. By virtue of the game being available in GamePass I finally have chosen to go back to enjoying it, that is, in the rare cases I game. I still don’t actually game nearly as much as one would think, and I’m hoping maybe giving Destiny 2 yet another go would be fun and get me gaming again.

That being said, I wanted to enjoy the past few years of content one last time before they lock it away. I really enjoy the game, never think I don’t, but it being an MMO inherently makes it a very routine thing. Load the game, do the same tasks, run into the same annoyances, wait for things to load, rinse, repeat. It’s a flaw inherent to the genre, but the actual experience of Destiny 2 is worth it; I have fun with it, just in bursts.

It’s funny, Destiny was supposed to be a 10 year game ecosystem, but that failed, partially because of the need to upkeep so much content. They even acknowledge in the announcement a few months back about the Vault happening that this was the reason for Destiny 2 to be made. It looks like they truly don’t want to make the same mistake again, and I have to applaud them for that.

So, yeah, when the new content drops I’ll hopefully take the time to really dive into it and give my say on it. I’ve yet to play most of the expansion content over the past few years, so I know I’ve missed a lot. The whole game is, in some ways, different, but hey, progress done right is good. It beats how they, in my opinion, butchered Guild Wars 2 in its first year update. Such is gaming I guess.

More to come, as always.
