It’s About The Hypocrisy

I’m normally not one to write about politics or politically tangential things, but sometimes I just have to chime in on the perpetual absurdity of the news coming from that sphere of American insanity.

In this case we have loudmouth right wing nutjob Lauren Boebert and some guy involved in some mutual groping (among other rowdy behavior) resulting in their removal from an all-ages performance of a theatrical rendition of Beetlejuice.

She has, of course, been apologizing for her actions, saying they “don’t hold up to her values.” This is, of course, political code-speak for “I got caught being just like everyone I cry out against daily but I still want people to think I’m better than them.”

The internet has been having a bit of a field day with the groping allegations, and honestly both sides of the political spectrum have been going into meltdown mode, the left saying she should be impeached or otherwise removed from office, and the right attacking everyone on the left who calls her out on this (regardless of how sane or not their reaction may be) by claiming that the critic has “never touched a titty” (seriously, I’ve seen that phrasing about a dozen fucking times today) in typical memelord fashion.

I’m going to keep my comments short and sweet on this — it’s all about the hypocrisy.

Let’s be clear — I generally don’t give a flying fuck what someone does in their day-to-day personal life. I do think you should try to be a bit reserved — this woman is 36, just a hair younger than me, but in a case like this she is behaving like I and my girlfriend in high school would behave: It’s just odd to hear of a grown man and woman of some kind of status behaving like this in the open, but hey, shit happens. I won’t explicitly judge her or her partner for it. I’ll just say I really would expect better as a general rule.

What I will judge is the fact that, like so many other right wing blowhards in the American political spectrum, she talks about being a born again Christian woman for “family values” and all the other hate filled bullshit that comes with that identity.

Yep, that’s really top tier Jesus loving, you and your man feeling up on eachother in a very public event. That’s the problem I have — to claim to hold such “values” and to behave like that. To show time and time again an incredible level of hypocrisy, claiming that drag queens and gay / trans people are corrupting children, all while you actually do something like that around children.

This is all I’ve ever really seen in life, too — people protesting against natural aspects of being human, acting like they are better than others, all while they do the same things they accuse others of. It’s constant and is the key reason I will never accept any claim of being religious as a factor in how “good” of a person they are — in fact, it’s likely to hurt my opinion of them, because time and time again it’s proven they are often times the evil they protest against.

….Okay, that went a bit off the rails. I’m typing this as quite the stream of thought, and no, Boebert getting a boob felt up isn’t the end of the world. Like I said, I wouldn’t give a fuck if it wasn’t for the hypocrisy. It’s always the hypocrisy. Does it affect her as a politician? Not really. I’d say the fact she’s an evangelical radical science denying nutjob is far worse and is a valid reason she shoudln’t be in any kind of position of power. This whole thing is honestly just funny in it reaffirming the double standards that these types of people always have.

On one last point, the right likes to bring up Hunter Biden and his shenanigans – apparently doing drugs and hookers and I don’t know…. and I don’t care. That has nothing to do with Joe Biden and his presidency, just as much as anything any of Trump’s kids would do has zero to do with him. Remember George W. Bush’s daughters getting drunk underage? Yeah, doesn’t matter with regards to the presidency the man had at all.

The difference here is this isn’t something Boebert’s kid did, this is something she did so it absolutely is fair to rip into her over it, because it’s fucking hilarious to once again see these right wing theocrats behaving in what would be considered very non-Christian ways. That’s all it boils down to.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have more important things to do, like watch old episodes of The Simpsons for the 500th time.
