On Saturday I decided to attempt a reaction and commentary style video regarding the most recent “Whack and Atheist” video from our favorite convicted felon, 064520-17 – AKA Kent Hovind. In this case, the video, uploaded on Wednesday, November 8th of 2023 was Kent talking about a radio debate he did, get this: 20 years ago! Yeah, he decided to jump back to an old gem of a “debate” where Eugenie Scott quite literally schools him on just how wrong he is about everything.
I thought, since it was about a 40 minute video, it would be a somewhat easy target, and while it wasn’t hard to come up with stuff to say, the problem was being able to counterbalance the absolute inanity of Kent. There’s just so much to have to say when that guy speaks — so many things that need to be addressed that you get bogged down literally spending what feels like an eternity countering him to only make it 5 minutes into a video of his.
Even at 1.5 times speed it was a nightmare to slog through his monologues.
That’s not to ignore the fact it took Kent 11 minutes to even really get to the debate and his comments! Yeah, the actual meat of the video doesn’t happen till a quarter of the way in, and by that time I already had something like 45 minutes of recording on my end. It just didn’t feel worth it. All that effort, all that time to clean up the shit he says, only to get almost nowhere in his meandering, inane, and crude old-man rants that he somehow claims is valuable, proper theological discussion.
He’s quite the difficult person to tolerate, as he spends an inordinate amount of time speaking, only to actually say nothing. Certainly nothing of value. For my contribution to the anti-creationism sphere it may be best for me to address things more broadly by writing, as opposed to spending time creating long form video reactions, especially in regards to a man who just says the same shit over and over.
It just stopped being fun. At certain moments in what was recorded I felt I had some great responses, but on a whole Kent’s ramblings are just so annoying that in the end I felt my time could be spent on something more valuable. Much better to address his comments in singular broad sweeps than to nit-pick him all the time, especially when others most certainly can do it far better. Why should I encroach on their sphere? I can do my own thing here with the written word which, interestingly enough, is where actual science is debated. Just a funny coincidence there, I think.
Right, with that said, time to recover from the possible damage that listening to 064520-17 can bring on to a persons psyche. More to come, as always.
