I wanted to write several things today but instead I decided to play Star Control 2 and study several debates which I had not yet watched, so I figured in an effort to get something out I’d post a little status update.
Not like anyone actually reads these things but you know, it’s content.
Beyond realizing this morning once again why I don’t do video content or make a podcast like I’ve tried (on both topics) so many times( as this morning I attempted to make a video on something which I guess will become an article soon) I’ve been spending likely far more time than I should have over the past few months refining the nature of my Bulletin Board System, Final Zone, eventually settling on Citadel for my BBS solution. I’ll have a dedicated article on that but it suffices to say I got tired of bigotry, hatred, and seemingly outright insanity in the networked BBS scene and decided to go with something purely local.
Beyond that, as mentioned above, I’ve been playing Star Control 2 recently — as in, the past couple of days. Strictly speaking the open source port “The Ur-Quan Masters” but still, it’s Star Control 2, a game I’ve been wanting to play for nearly 30 years, but never got around to — even with my 3DO, I never gave it an honest play, but I’m making up for that now.
I’ve additionally been spending time again, for the first time in a long time practicing guitar and bass — I consider myself a bassist who happens to play guitar, but I would say I’m not terrible on either instrument, and I really have fun playing songs I like, trying to come up with my own riffs and the general culture and nature of guitar / bass and other instruments. It’s a nice escape from seemingly everything else in my life — the one thing I kind of keep isolated. A happy place, if you will. One of very deep tones and high distortion — sometimes, at the same time, if I feel like pulling a Lemmy.
Otherwise, I’ve been just going with the flow, still not in the best place in the universe but life is stable. As always I can simply sum things up as it is what it is. I’m still hoping to get back fully in the groove of writing regularly. Just have to keep trying and maybe one day it will all just click.
