Another Christmas has come and gone and, being the nostalgic person I am, I realized much like Christmas of 2018 marked 25 years since I got my Sega Genesis as a kid, this Christmas marked 25 years since I got a Game Gear, Sega’s very awesome (and very battery hungry) portable console of the early …

The Darkest Part Of Every “Apocalypse” Scare – The Scams And Lies
Today happens to be December 21st. Many of you may recall back in 2012 (that’s 7 years ago now) everyone was talking about this whole “Mayan Apocalypse” thing, as one of their calendars happened to end on that date. Well, it actually didn’t, as it was misinterpreted, and the Mayan calendar naturally had beginning and …

Has Scheduling Improved My Writing? I Think So.
Ah yes, another one of those oddly meta “blog entries about blogging.” I’m mostly writing this one because, as with most of December, it’s been a bit of a long day and I don’t feel like cranking out anything more substantial. In any case, over the past few months I’ve set myself up with a …

A Look Back At 30 Years Of The Simpsons
Ah, The Simpsons. A show I pretty much grew up with; as much as one really could say with regards to a television series, anyway. Today, December 17th, 2019 marks 30 years since the premier of The Simpsons as a stand-alone television show, starting with that holiday classic “Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire.“ Honestly, …

How “The Wizard” Became One Of My Favorite Films Ever
Today, December 15th, 2019, marks 30 years since the film “The Wizard” premiered in theaters. This film is famous among gamers of a certain age for the fact that it heavily features video games — not just any games, mind you, but the Nintendo Entertainment System. For those of us in the late 80’s and …

Vagabond’s Quest Is Back. Yes, I’m Serious.
Long time readers may recall an article I wrote back in 2016 regarding an online game I used to play in High School around 2001-2002 range called Vagabond’s Quest. It was a straightforward game, played from the website itself and functionally through text rather than any kind of awesome graphical world — more akin to …

How I Rediscovered My Love Of Making Music
Back in late August I was spending some time with a friend who was in town on business. He and I are both very much into the hunt for treasure that is antique and thrift store shopping, and on this particular day we stopped at one of my regular antique store haunts; one I’ve picked …

We Now Return To Your Regularly Scheduled Program (Dec 2019 Edition)
Late last week I wrote about an unscheduled break I had taken from writing on this site. With today being Monday I, of course, wanted to get back on schedule with writing. The problem is, with this being the holiday season, today proved to be more busy than I expected and I’m only now, at …

Mind The Gap – An Unscheduled Break (Dec 2019 Edition)
It’s been about a week since my last post here. I’ve, quite simply, needed a small break after the pre-Black Friday buildup and the week following. For anyone in retail, even for someone like me who works in a small used game store, this is a busy time of year, and the added demands of …

What’s Coming For December 2019 On Xadara
Now that the insanity of this past week (including Black Friday) is over, just what do I have planned for December 2019? Well, to start off with, I’m going to bloody rest. This past week has been non-stop work for me in one form or another – I cranked out more articles than normal for …

I Think I Misjudged The YouTube / COPPA Situation
On Friday of last week I wrote an article about the YouTube / COPPA situation and how I felt like people may have been making a bigger deal out of it than they should. As it turns out, this is a case where I was very, very wrong. Let me explain that traditionally people have …

A Word To Fans Of Google Stadia
The past weekend has been quite an interesting one for the gaming community, as this past week the new cloud gaming service (and console) from Google, known as Stadia, launched. Much anticipated by many, it’s safe to say it was met with mixed regard once it was in the hands of players and media outlets …

The Origin Of The Blue Echidna
If you’ve at all been on Twitter and seen my pal Prince Watercress share an image of Knuckles the Echidna (from the Sonic the Hedgehog series) but in a blue color and wondered what that’s about, well, wonder no more — here’s the story of just what the hell that’s about. Let’s go back, way …

Some Progress With The Dell Server
Last week I mentioned I had procured a ratty old Dell PowerEdge R310 server from work. It’s beat up, missing most of the hard drive carrier sleds (I still don’t know where those went) but it worked and was mine to do with what I saw fit. Over the past weekend I’ve devoted quite a …

What’s Coming For November 2019 On Xadara
A new month means a new update on just what I’ve got planned for the next 4 weeks or so here. Not the most interesting content, unless you’re a particular type of person who really likes this kind of “what the person is thinking” content but hell, it wouldn’t feel right starting the month without …
